Hip Arthroscopy Update
24 May 2010
Recently Marita and Josie attended an update on Rehabilitation following hip arthroscopy. This type of surgery is becoming frequently used in the treatment of labral tears, impingement syndromes, chondral injuries and loose bodies.
As for any arthroscopic surgery the technique is more accurate and less invasive than open surgery. Physiotherapy management is an essential part of recovery from this type of surgery.
Assessment of both the hip and sacroiliac joint is important as is addressing any pre-disposing factors that may have contributed to the hip pathology.
Our rehabilitation programs following hip arthroscopy aim to address poor motor control strategies, postural malalignment and strength around the hip and pelvis.
Gradual return to pre-surgery activities over a 6 to 16 weeks would be expected.
