ProgramsOur programs are directed at treating a variety of conditions and are suitable for all age groups![]() Clinical PilatesThe clinical pilates program has been developed by physiotherapists as a means to improve functional dynamic stability of the muscles around the trunk. We use specialised equipment to assist with exercise in the early stages of rehabilitation ensuring that movement is always a positive experience. We now use Real Time Ultrasound to image the stabilising muscles of the spine. We can assess the quality, timing and endurance of these muscles. Exercises are individually prescribed and determined by the findings on our assessment. OsteoporosisThe two major factors that contribute to the risk of osteoporotic fracture are low bone mass and falls. A structured exercise program is designed to improve balance and coordination, posture, mobility and muscle strength. This maximizes bone mass and reduces the risk of falling. Work HardeningTo ensure a full recovery and return to work following a work related injury it is necessary to complete a full rehabilitation program that is designed to regain functional strength and endurance. We will design an appropriate exercise program for you with consideration of the specific demands of your job. Falls Prevention/BalanceWe will carry out a falls risk assessment and identify those people at risk of a fall. This program is designed to maintain and improve muscle strength and balance as well as joint mobility and prevent potential falls from becoming actual falls. Post Operative RehabilitationWe provide complete post operative care for all types of orthopaedic surgery. An important part of full recovery is an exercise program to restore full range of movement, strength and control to enable return to sport or return to normal pre surgery activities. Sports RehabilitationWe have had a long association with elite and non elite athletes of all ages. We diagnose, manage and return the sportsperson to competition. We work in close association with sports medicine physicians, surgeons, and coaches to ensure the best outcome for your problem. We provide pre season musculoskeletal screening for athletes, biomechanical analysis of movement dysfunction and sports technique, and advice regarding orthotic control. Our clinic has a close association with local sport particularly ACT Netball, hockey, touch football, rugby union, rugby league, gymnastics, dance and golf. We have been ACT Academy of Sport service providers since it’s beginning and continue to be involved with ACT’s aspiring athletes. Women’s Health, Pelvic Floor and Continence ManagementWe have a special interest in Women’s health issues, we assess and treat pelvic floor muscle weakness and its associated problems by implementing pelvic floor muscle strengthening and bladder re-training programs. We use ultrasound imaging to evaluate the effectiveness of a pelvic floor muscle contraction. We treat pregnancy related problems such as low back pain, postpartum issues such as mastitis, incontinence and fitness. We also treat peri menopausal problems such as urinary stress incontinence, fitness and osteoporosis. Real Time Ultrasound Imaging![]() Imaging of the deep abdominal muscles We now offer real time ultrasound (RTUS). This allows us to see the muscles working in real time. This is useful when retraining the deep stabilising muscles of the lumbar spine. We can also image the deep stabilising muscles of the hip which can provide a useful feedback when retraining these muscles. We also use ultrasound imaging in the assessement and treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction. Imaging the pelvic floor muscles is an excellent way of providing feedback which can assist in learning the correct technique. We can assess the lifting aspect of the pelvic floor muscles by observing movement of the bladder. You will need to have a fairly full bladder at your appointment to enable us to do this assessment. |
